  • Fashion Inspiration

To plan my newest designs, I have a muse by way of a board full of fabrics, dresses, sketches, and color. A lot of it is screenshots of Pinterest, but others are scraps of fabrics I enjoyed working with, to help figure out what would be an unproblematic, and adequate material. I used to have my wall of design (the post can be found here: https://www.aryanasfashion.com/post/introducing-the-wall-of-design) But it had to much weight, so it fell down. The cork board I have has pins spearing pictures I liked fashion-wise, as well as fabrics onto it. This is a nice way to condense down my thoughts, so that I’m not flipping through a thousand pictures to find something I liked. Another thing I do is having multiple sketchbooks to draw inspo in or flip through - I have a really nice one that I always carry with me because it's small If you're a designer/artist, how do you keep your inspo?

  • New Bag!!

My new bag is perfect for toting everything around. It's got a Deathly Hallows print from Harry Potter and it's super big!! The fabric is lightweight and I love it! So, I made this bag Sunday night and took it to school. It's mainly used for carrying school stuff like my laptop, planner, and pencils, as well as a snack. It does fit a binder, but because I'm always switching them out it's kind of counterintuitive. In high school we don't have lockers so it may be more worth my while. The fabric is durable and the straps are secure. It's also super cute and it goes with everything. I would definitely consider making this my main school bag rather than a normal one if it a) had zippers and b) had some pockets. I also might make it a little bigger so I can fit my lunch. Overall, it was perfect for the use I needed it for, and next year I'd definitely consider making something like this for my main bag. In the comments, let me know what you think!

  • In the LAVENDER HAZE

Taylor Swift released her Lavender Haze Music Video a while ago, and I am OBSESSED! (Actually, I’m just mainly obsessed with everything TS.) Before and after the video came out, I put together some fabrics and ideas, as well as rating each outfit. The Fashion (Taylor’s Version) In her music video, Taylor wears a 90's inspired outfit, as well as a lot of purple pieces. She wears an indigo t-shirt, a shaggy purple sweater/coat, a lavender and white lace top, a red-yellow-and-white knitted vest (not to mention purple water). It's got a lot more purple than either of the other music videos, which had a 90's theme and an old 1700's theme respectively. It also perfectly emulates the sleepless vibes, almost as good as the anti-hero MV. The Fabrics: So, I decided to put together some fabrics. Here they are: The other ones are pretty explanatory, but the green red and yellow ones may not be. I thought they fit the vibes of her striped knit-vest. Did I get it right? Please comment!

  • Sewing: Expectation vs. Reality

Sewing:  Expectation Vs. Reality Hi everyone! I’m not sure why I’m writing this, but today I want to tell you about the random, well, stuff, that goes on when I sew. Now, anybody who likes looking at sewing rooms (like me) or well-organized sewing boxes, mini-bolts of fabrics, and well placed mood boards could be easily caught up in the thinking that sewing is super glamorous and not messy. On Instagram, people post pictures of their sewing projects in neat rooms with bright white carpet, perfect lighting, and a well-assorted collection of sewing objects well-placed around them. When they sew, as deduced by their pictures, it’s something for a movie: their cutting perfect, their fabrics always well-organized, their pins sitting aesthetically atop an eye-pleasing pin cushion. It’s a scene fit for Cruella and the Baroness. Isn’t that what sewing looks like? Well the answer is a reverberating no. My sewing is pretty documented, depending on how elaborate and time consuming the project is, but while you see what I put on my mannequin (because that’s why the picture is there) you can’t see so much else. Take right now, for example. I’m sitting on the floor in the tiny sewing area of my bedroom on a random bright-colored cushion, with about 1,000 pins at my right wrist and a dress I’m pinning on my left. Far from the image of beauty, it’s a mess and there’s thread, fabric scraps, and pins on the floor. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure some people can sew and maintain the presentability of their space, but I honestly can’t see how they do it, unless they have someone to help them and/or don’t actually free-sew that much. I (and the majority of sewers out there) don’t have this, so I wanted to give you an honest look at my space. I’ll give you a tour of my space so you can see how I work. I have my mannequin, which is pretty good besides a few threads on it, and it actually has it’s pincushion on top that’s usually missing. In my cubby-drawer-things, I’ve got my sewing box (which I just organized and is still somehow messy), and some fabrics in mini bins and stacked. It’s not neat, but I know where everything is, so that’s good. And I have my counter, which usually is either clean or sporting my newest batch of projects. Today, it’s the latter, and I have the final dress for the Wednesday Addams Collection and most of the pieces for the Valentine’s Day collection on there. The rest are on my sewing cart, which is usually used for scraps, and has a flat space perfect for storing collection fabrics. I can make it look really cute, but usually, I don’t have the ability to do so - I want to sew! Now, I cut some fabric, it gets scraps everywhere, I pick up the big ones. I pin it, I poke myself, I keep pinning, I poke again. Then I sew it, sew, poke, sew, poke, oh no needle broke and I can’t find part of it, that’s ok, put in a knew needle and keep going, seam ripper, sew more, done with seams. Altering usually goes something like try on mannequin make changes, lose a couple pins, ah well, change it, try it on, ow I poked myself, change those changes, little repeat, yay it’s done, take a picture. Now, somehow in between it gets really messy. I have no idea. And the above paragraph tells you why I don’t do action shots with me in them. They’re tricky to take (as well as being time-consuming), I usually forget, and my room isn’t really that great. Once I can clean it up, it’s back to a pretty good state though. And that’s the reality of sewing - messy, crazy, and lots of pokes. But despite all these things, it’s still the best thing ever. And if you sew and can take really nice pictures of yourself that don’t look terrible, that’s super cool! I want your tips!

  • What I'm Up To (Part 2)

Some things you can look forward to: I'm still working on my leather and leggings collection, it's taking me a bit longer because I'm doing a few new things, it'll be posted once I finish it and take some pictures. I have a fancy gown I'm going to make, I have the exact design, I just haven't started yet. I also have a gold gown I'm designing, I'll post the design when I find it. So for my black layering pieces collection, I found some extra fabric (it's all one kind) so I get to make more stuff. I'm almost done with the dress, I just need final edits. Best of all: my Velvet Dress collection is DONE! I'm posting it under dresses and check the blog for my introductory article. These are the fabrics for my fancy gown. It's an oceanic themed piece but I'm keeping the design a surprise. One more thing: I'm making a Halloween dress in a few weeks, it will be black and silver. It's not a costume, so I need ideas for what it should look like. Comment if you have an idea, that would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day/night/whatever! *Note*: for those of you with sharp eyes, yes in some of my glove pictures, that is my name in Hindi written in henna on my palm.

  • Introducing..... the VELVET DRESS Collection

This is the first of my collection articles. This one is posted under dresses and it comprises four dresses. Here's the rundown, piece-by-piece, of my newest collection. Red One-Shoulder Long Sleeve Dress This red one-shoulder isn't too fancy, but it's a little bit elevated, which makes it perfect for a night out or a casual get-together. I wore it to a birthday dinner with many compliments. Purple One-Shoulder Short Sleeve Dress This one, similar to the red long-sleeve, is a slightly elevated dress that's perfect for a casual time out. I wore this to a dinner with another family and they were so impressed! Blue Off-the-Shoulder Short Sleeve Dress This one is a simpler piece that can be worn off the shoulder, although I have worn it short sleeved. I wore it to a park get-together and got a lot of compliments. Maroon Red Simple Short Sleeve Dress This is the simplest of this collection, but certainly not the least. It's a short-sleeve mid-length dress that can be worn at home or out, making it good for my closet. I haven't worn it yet, but I'm going to wear it to a casual birthday party (it's only 3 people) in a couple days. So that's my velvet collection! Please comment with your favorite, and have a good day/night/whatever!
